What is Hearing Loss? - It’s the inability to hear speech and other
sounds
loudly or clearly enough to understand them.
What is a Speech problem? – A problem exists when speech is not under-
standable or the listener is distracted by how the speech sounds.
How loud is too loud? – Continued or repeated exposure to noise
levels above 85 dB may damage hearing. Examples: lawn mower
90dB, stereo (over
120 watts) 110 dB, thunderclap 120dB, amplified
rock concert 125dB, rocket
194dB.
What is a Cochlear Implant? – A cochlear implant is an electronic
device designed to provide sound information for adults and children
who have a
profound sensironeural hearing loss (nerve deafness) in
both ears and show no
ability to understand speech through hearing
aids.
